The girl’s water polo season has officially begun. It’s a first for some of the members of the Frosh-Soph team. Their first games of the season were at Agoura High School. On Friday, November 15 they were up against the Royals at 5:20 and Westlake at 7:50. The Next day, Saturday, November 16 they played Calabasas at 11:20 and Thousand Oaks at 2:40.
Unfortunately, they lost all 4 games. However, they were still insistent on working hard to win future games. When asked how they felt after the loss, a player on the team said in an interview: “Well it obviously doesn’t feel great when you lose, but I would say that it definitely inspired us to improve, get better, and learn from our mistakes during the game.”
Their improvement showed in their game on Tuesday, November 19. They were up against Thousand Oaks again. They lost by 1 point, whereas last game, they lost by 6 points. Another player said, “I’m confident that we will improve because at our Tuesday night game, we had a huge comeback from our game on Saturday against Thousand Oaks where we lost a 6 point difference and this time it was only a loss by 1 point.” A second player also added, “I definitely think that our loss against Thousand Oaks on Saturday got us fired up for the game this past Tuesday, to get better, improve, and win.”
The Frosh-Soph team focuses on individual speed, defense, and team communication. Taking advantage of practice to hone these skills is the main focus of the team. An interviewed player told us, “I definitely think we need to communicate more in the pool. Communication is always great for making sure that someone’s open and passing. Honestly, I think we need to be more active in our swimming and make sure we’re not letting our doubts get the best of us during the game.”
The Frosh-Soph team won their game on Thursday, November 21 at 4:00. The game was a home game with Agoura winning 10-6 against Santa Barbara. When asked how it felt to win the game a player responded “I feel really proud of the whole team and happy that we were able to get a win. I can tell we have gotten a lot better in such a short time.”
Despite all the losses, it’s clear The Frosh-Soph team is making progress and reaching success. They continue to endure the rest of the season with confidence and improvement: “I believe that we have definitely improved since the beginning of the year as a Frosh-soph team and I think this season is going to be an amazing one for us.”
